Welcome, and thank you for checking out my first of (hopefully) many travel blog posts. Let me begin by explaining why traveling is important to me. From a very young age, my family would encourage me to travel. Although being born and raised in Brooklyn comes with worldwide bragging rights, my family always stressed the importance of getting out of the city and exposing myself to the diverse cultures around the world.
As an infant my family brought me to the warm, clean beaches of Waikiki, Hawaii. As a toddler I would spend every summer with my aunt and uncle in the blazing dry heat of Dallas, Texas. During my time in elementary school I remember packing up the car and heading down to Raleigh, North Carolina to visit my sister for spring break. Followed by our summers spent in Kure Beach. I remember in middle school, traveling half way around the world to visit my sister while she thought english in Japan. And throughout my years in high school partying in Cancun, Mexico at night and stuffing my face with delicious tacos by day.
Truth be told it has been a while since I traveled last…Would have to date back to May 2011, Puerto Vallarta for a combination of me graduating from college, my birthday and my sister’s destination wedding. Since then, I have been working non-stop, a slave to the system if you will. I felt that it was time for a change, so I made one.
Every year around the end of December I look over my list of goals from the previous year, see what I’ve accomplished and what I still need to work on, and then I create a new list of goals, which I handwrite on large poster paper and hang on my wall. I do this so that my goals remain right in front of me, everyday I am reminded of what I want out of life and it motivates me to go get it. This year I decided that the timing was right and that a goal of mine for this year is to take 12 out of state trips. Traveling is also important to me because if gives me perspective on life and the world we live in. By being able to step out of my life for an extended period of time, I am able to experience a new culture, become familiar with a new way of life, become inspired by other minds and revaluate my goals and priorities.
So like I said before, thank you for checking out my first of, hopefully many travel blog posts, beginning with my most recent trip to Dubai.
